We have just returned from a week-end winter break at the Chateau. We did so enjoy it, particularly the big old farmhouse kitchen and log fire.  The drive was a bit further than expected (5 hours from St Malo) but it was still worth it and most enjoyable.  Thank you to the staff.

A relaxing family holiday in a fantastic venue

Taking our family, 9 adults on holiday, will always be a challenge - but the memories of our stay at the Chateau de Rochebonne will remain with us for many years to come.A wonderful week, where we were forced to relax & unwind, whether willing away the hours all sitting down around the bbq, or lounging by the pool, or getting lost in the house in its many rooms with its collection of memorabilia referencing the history of the Chateau.A unique holiday in so many waysThank you

We are back now and I just wanted to say a big thank you to you. We really enjoyed being at the Chateau.I really got the measure too of how hard you work to keep Rochebonne running! When I even just think about the furnishing all those bedrooms, bathrooms and sitting rooms, the trouble that you have gone to to make it interesting for people with your carefully notated antiques and ephemera in the chateau, the rules you have to think about re rubbish, swimming pools, health and safety etc, the pleasant way in which you have explained everything to your visitors in the hand book etc, and the huge quantities of washing, ironing and upkeep and organisation of the assorted French staff you have to pay to keep that and the gites going, it makes me feel quite weak!!!Anne Brewer

Thanks for this lovely feedback ! Indeed, we do work very hard !

The best holiday ever! We took the chateau and it was wonderful to lord it for a couple of weeks in lovely surroundings! We had never been in such an interesting house before, the pool was great, the weather was great, Christine was great - altogether a brilliant holiday and we have already booked 2 cottages for next year

Thanks - you were great guests too !

ye old-worldy

We did have a nice holiday, but people need to be aware that if they are expecting smart stream-lined kitchens and bathrooms, they will be disappointed. These are ancient buildings and if you don't like heavy beams and stonework you will not like these cottages. We hired 3 of them on an extended family vacation, and there was everything we needed and the pool was brilliant. Just all too old-worldy for us.

Well honestly! All you have to do is look at the photos to see these are beamy places ! And read the description ! I'm glad you had a good holiday however.

Enjoying Rochebonne

We spent 1 week in one of the historical gîtes. The gîte was ok, the weather was good and allthough all gîtes were occupided we were most of the time on our own. We appreciated that. Even our two little dogs enjoyed their vacation at Rochebonne. We visited nice villages and spent a few times at the sea. L'Ile d'Oléron is beautifull for walking or to make a trip by bicycle. Thanks for the hospitaly. We will certainly recomment Rochebonne to our friends.Gerard and Colette from Belgium

Thank you for these nice comments

Wonderful Holiday

We have just returned from a wonderful break at Rochebonne. It was an excellent base for exploring all the area has to offer and full of rustic rural charm-just as described. We had a few minor niggles but they were dealt with efficiently and swiftly both by Sarah and Christine. We will return and will be recommending to friends. Thank you for having us!!

Ah thank you Maria,
So pleased you enjoyed your stay.
We look forward to welcoming you back and to you recommending us to friends 🙂
Thank you for taking the time to do a review for us too!

Quirky French charm!

Spent 2 weeks here with children, grandchildren and friends so house was big enough to fit everyone! The outside is wonderful, especially the sand pit and pool. We would have liked more sunshine but the weather cannot be booked! The house is full of quirky charm and history. The TVs work well and there is plenty of room to cook and store food and drinks in kitchens .The beach at La Tremblade is wonderful and for a duller day the pirate soft play was a good alternative for the children! We enjoyed the huge croissants from the local bakery, every morning deciding what animal they represented!Rochebonne is a great place for a big get together .

Dear Jane and family,
So pleased you enjoyed your stay. I did try and book the sunshine for you!
Thank you for the lovely review.Look forward to welcoming you back one day.
Best regards

Happy Days in France

After a busy start to the year we were really looking forward to some R&R in France at the chateau we had bid for and won at a charity auction. As we had other commitments, we were only able to go in April this year and had little expectation of spending much time outdoors as the weather was still likely to be on the chilly side. So six of us headed to France with plenty of waterproofs, jumpers, board games and books. Wow what an amazing time we had. Very easy journey there from Folkestone with a stop off in Le Mans. The weather was gorgeous. Warm enough for us to enjoy the swimming pool, loungers and BBQ. The chateau is charming and well kitted out with UK TV perfect for our teenagers. Lots of great beaches and pretty towns to explore close by. The local village has a great bakery within walking distance perfect for fresh breakfast pastries. We had a fantastic holiday and were well looked after by the chateau staff.

Thank you for your lovely review. So pleased you enjoyed your stay. Its great to know you had a good time and the charity made some much needed funds!
Best Wishes from us all.

Fantastic holiday gite

What can I say, an amazing holiday home set in beautiful grounds in rural France with lots to do for any age.We are a family of 5 with 3 children (7,9 and 12) who had a fabulous week in July 2017 in "le pressoir" gite. We have stayed in gites before, but these are some of the best equipped and decorated/refurbished that we have stayed in.We had everything we needed, the children loved the amazing pool. The grounds were fantastic to allow them freedom, but complete security. The location was great, so near to many places - Saintes, Royan, Ile D'Oleron, La Rochelle, Rochefort (beautiful market). We didn't get a chance to see everything we wanted, so will have to come back! Many thanks to Christine who looked after us when we were there. Also huge thanks to Sarah for the booking process, she really goes above and beyond demonstrating excellent customer service.Whilst at the gite I read the owner Catherine Broughton's book "A call from France". I would thoroughly recommend what was a great read, but also gave an insight into the struggles the family had during the renovation of the properties. It was great to read about the house/area you are staying in whilst you are there! We hope to be back again!

We are all so pleased you enjoyed your stay and can not wait to welcome you back.
Thank you so much for the lovely review.

So Worth A Visit!

We have not long returned from a long weekend. We were warned there were works going on as they are doing lots of improvements for this summer. This did not affect our stay at all as the workers were so considerate. The place was alive with beautiful flowers and just perfect for our "holiday home". As my title of this reveiw......this place is SO WORTH A VISIT. We will be back and for longer next time. Thanks to all.

Oh thank you Chloe, we are so pleased you enjoyed your stay and look forward to welcoming you back soon.
