We have just returned from a week-end winter break at the Chateau. We did so enjoy it, particularly the big old farmhouse kitchen and log fire. The drive was a bit further than expected (5 hours from St Malo) but it was still worth it and most enjoyable. Thank you to the staff.

Spent 2 weeks here with children, grandchildren and friends so house was big enough to fit everyone! The outside is wonderful, especially the sand pit and pool. We would have liked more sunshine but the weather cannot be booked! The house is full of quirky charm and history. The TVs work well and there is plenty of room to cook and store food and drinks in kitchens .The beach at La Tremblade is wonderful and for a duller day the pirate soft play was a good alternative for the children! We enjoyed the huge croissants from the local bakery, every morning deciding what animal they represented!Rochebonne is a great place for a big get together .
Dear Jane and family,
So pleased you enjoyed your stay. I did try and book the sunshine for you!
Thank you for the lovely review.Look forward to welcoming you back one day.

After a busy start to the year we were really looking forward to some R&R in France at the chateau we had bid for and won at a charity auction. As we had other commitments, we were only able to go in April this year and had little expectation of spending much time outdoors as the weather was still likely to be on the chilly side. So six of us headed to France with plenty of waterproofs, jumpers, board games and books. Wow what an amazing time we had. Very easy journey there from Folkestone with a stop off in Le Mans. The weather was gorgeous. Warm enough for us to enjoy the swimming pool, loungers and BBQ. The chateau is charming and well kitted out with UK TV perfect for our teenagers. Lots of great beaches and pretty towns to explore close by. The local village has a great bakery within walking distance perfect for fresh breakfast pastries. We had a fantastic holiday and were well looked after by the chateau staff.
Thank you for your lovely review. So pleased you enjoyed your stay. Its great to know you had a good time and the charity made some much needed funds!
Best Wishes from us all.
What can I say, an amazing holiday home set in beautiful grounds in rural France with lots to do for any age.We are a family of 5 with 3 children (7,9 and 12) who had a fabulous week in July 2017 in "le pressoir" gite. We have stayed in gites before, but these are some of the best equipped and decorated/refurbished that we have stayed in.We had everything we needed, the children loved the amazing pool. The grounds were fantastic to allow them freedom, but complete security. The location was great, so near to many places - Saintes, Royan, Ile D'Oleron, La Rochelle, Rochefort (beautiful market). We didn't get a chance to see everything we wanted, so will have to come back! Many thanks to Christine who looked after us when we were there. Also huge thanks to Sarah for the booking process, she really goes above and beyond demonstrating excellent customer service.Whilst at the gite I read the owner Catherine Broughton's book "A call from France". I would thoroughly recommend what was a great read, but also gave an insight into the struggles the family had during the renovation of the properties. It was great to read about the house/area you are staying in whilst you are there! We hope to be back again!
We are all so pleased you enjoyed your stay and can not wait to welcome you back.
Thank you so much for the lovely review.
We have not long returned from a long weekend. We were warned there were works going on as they are doing lots of improvements for this summer. This did not affect our stay at all as the workers were so considerate. The place was alive with beautiful flowers and just perfect for our "holiday home". As my title of this reveiw......this place is SO WORTH A VISIT. We will be back and for longer next time. Thanks to all.
Oh thank you Chloe, we are so pleased you enjoyed your stay and look forward to welcoming you back soon.

We use one cottage also the chateau. We like very much. There is a lot of charactor and interest and the weather was very good.We use the pool every day.Close by to beach and place of interest.Comfort in the beds and kitchen, all very good.
We booked a week's stay at the end of September 2016, with 13 of us staying at the Chateau! It is the most beautiful 'house', set in amazing grounds and has everything you could possibly need for a happy holiday.Plenty of utensils, cutlery, crockery, bedding, chairs, etc and a fantastic pool/barbeque area.Christine is on site to sort out any small problems/offer advice/help with ordering taxis, etc and nothing was too much trouble for her.We had a wonderful time here and would have no hesitation in recommending it to others.
We had an excellent holiday. Really enjoyed it. The cottages are quaint and quirky, but a bit dark - to be expected in 16th Century buildings, and a god-send when it was hot. Brilliant pool and grounds. A bit of background traffic noise but nothing that bothered us.Have read all of Catherine Broughton's books which somehow added ot the overall things. Most enjoyable
So pleased you enjoyed your stay and the rustic charm of our cottages.
Catherine will love to hear you have read her books too. Please do leave reviews for them too on either Amazon or goodreads.
Hopefully we will welcome you back again soon.

We have just returned from a weeks holiday based in the Le Logis cottage and what a week. The cottage is large, roomy, comfortable and well appointed. On the facilities front it had everything you'd need even Sky+, although this only went on once. when my son wanted to see the grand prix qualifying. Our family of four adults plus my son and daughter's partners and our dog Bailey, wanted for nothing. This cottage has the added advantage that it has a private, good sized, walled garden, which was a real god send for the dog.Plus it made our evenings extremely pleasant., with the BBQ and in built paella burner (which we used). The grass area even gave way to a boule contest most evenings. The holiday was timed to coincide with my daughters 30th birthday and what a memorable day we had, from opening champagne for breakfast in the garden to having a fantastic evening meal at one of the restaurants recommended in he cottage handbook.Christine, one of the staff there, even organised a local taxi to take/collect us from the restaurant, which was massively appreciated.Although the pool is shared. it's large and well maintained, plus on most days the other families at Rochebonne went out for the day leaving us to our "private pool"!The only downside was that Le Logis wasn't available for two weeks, when we booked.I'm sure we will be back!Thank you, Catherine, Sarah, Christine and all of the other staff.Best regards,SteveI
We are so pleased you enjoyed our accommodation and over the moon that you had such a memorable stay. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future.
I passed on your lovely words to Christine and she was over the moon.

The moment we arrived and were shown our little 2 bed gite we were delighted with our choice. 'The cute rustic cottage for our 2 week stay was a joy. The French ladies who deal with the cleaning etc were lovely, happy and friendly. Even though the weather was changeable for the first 10 days we had a great holiday in this beautiful area of France. There is so much to see and do. The grounds and the little gardens for each gite and the pool are lovely and excellent for children being very secure with gates and a high wall. I cannot recommend it highly enough and we were quite sad to leave. The family who own the chateau and gites are a lovely family and we were lucky enough to meet them.
Dear Barbara and Colin,
Thank you for taking the time to write a review and especially such a lovely one. I know Catherine thoroughly enjoyed meeting you too. Hopefully we will welcome you back one day and who knows I might get to meet you too!
We are just about to leave this wonderful venue. The gardens are a picture and the grounds perfect with private areas for the cottages and communal areas too. the cottages are wonderfully traditional and quaint. We will definitely be back. The whole experience has been spot on from booking through Sarah to friendly staff (Christine and Jacqueline) and even getting to meet the owner Catherine Broughton. Can not wait to read her book 'call from France' as apparently it tells the story of living here as a family. If you are reading this do yourself a favour and book a visit here! I'm glad we did!
Victoria, we are so pleased you have enjoyed your stay and really hope to welcome you and your lovely family again. Enjoy the book!
